olvik made a splash in the
United States eight years ago
when it first rolled out its
colorful new Vivid golf balls. Since
that time, Volvik has continued to
spice up the game with even more
brightly hued golf balls that stand
out – and perform – on the course.
The Players Club Insider recently
spoke to Volvik USA CEO/President
Don Shin about what makes the ball
maker stand out in an ever-evolving
and crowed market.

What do you attribute to the com-
pany's success? Being different and
building quality, playable golf balls
for every player. Also by creating
colors with performance that truly
excite many golfers.

What attracts golfers to your prod-
uct? Volvik has recreated the story of
the golf ball. People love color and
want it in all they buy. Golf balls are
no different. However, the golf ball
category is the most demanding in
golf. Once we came out with the
first-ever matte finish golf ball, Vivid,
golfers loved the look and feel of this
new idea. Today, we have 11 colors
in our best-ever selling golf ball. By
the way, Vivid is a great ball for most
average to better players as it is a
three-piece, 75-compression ball.

What are some of the advantages
of playing with a colored golf ball?
There are many, such as better con-
centration and being able to see the
shot off the club, as well as finding it
on the ground.

Volvik is known for colorful golf
balls, but how do they stack up with
performance? Volvik Korea began 40
years ago. There are more than 40
patents. We have had tour players –
men and women – play our product
for a long time. We have a golf ball
for every player. We build technol-
ogy that works and do not make
balls just to tap into a trend, unless
we create that trend.

Are there any new products that
you are excited about? We have a
new S3 and a new S4 tour series golf
ball that recently launched. We have
an all new 2-piece matte finish golf
ball called the Vimax, shipping next
month. Our new Skull Collection 2.0
pack has been an amazing new idea
for so many golfers. Also, we are in-
troducing a relationship with Marvel
that combines our Vivid golf ball
with Iron Man, Spider-Man, and
Captain America. The first products
will be our Vivid ball and a custom
hat clip-ball marker. These will ship
in early April. This is very exciting
for all of us – the pre-sell has been
off the charts.
