verdue changes are in store this
year for the 48-year-old Long
Beach Men's City Champi-
onship. And it all started with a few
simple questions. When the organizers
of the Long Beach Golf Festival set out
to survey tournament participants dur-
ing the off-season, little did they know
how comprehensive the feedback
would be — or how much they would
learn.
"It was almost overwhelming to see
how much pride in ownership exists
among the large group of players that
look forward to the Men's City each
year," said Long Beach Golf Festival Ex-
ecutive Director Tim Forbes. "Their
feedback was very honest and direct,
and their criticisms constructive. The
survey was a humbling exercise, and it
told us that we had significant work to
do to deliver the kind of tournament ex-
perience that our loyal players have the
right to expect.
"Two distinct themes emerged. One,
it became clear that those who have
played in the Championship flight of
the Men's City have been the beneficiar-
ies of a much better tournament experi-
ence than those who have played in the
other, 'lettered' flights. And that latter
group isn't happy about it.
