C
reativity is an asset in many
fields, and it has never been
more important in the
competitive world of golf. That's
why American Golf has put a major
push behind creating unique and
fun events at its courses that attract
golfers and members of the Players
Club by giving them new and
different ways to enjoy the game.
"These events are fun and
unique – and they're open to the
public, giving golfers options and
experiences that are different from
everyday golf," said Kimmy
Arranaga, a Regional Director of
Sales for American Golf who is
based in Southern California. "They
appeal to all different types and skill
levels of golfers, and they're social
and exciting. They bring in golfers
who don't normally play our
courses, and a lot of times get them
hooked on the courses themselves."
One event in particular that has
taken off in popularity is the annual
Spark of Love Golf tournament and
toy Drive, held this year December
6-7 at San Dimas Canyon Golf
Course near Los Angeles. The
tournament expanded to two days
for the first time, and approximately
230 golfers participated.
Players donate an unwrapped toy
to be distributed to kids in need
throughout Southern California, and
many guests bring two or three. Last
year, the event raised approximately
$7,000 and collected more than 800
toys and 50 kids' bicycles for Spark
of Love. Not only a great charitable
event, the scramble also places a
heavy emphasis on fun and
celebrating the holiday season.
"Spark of Love is an awesome
program that is in its 26th year,"
Arranaga said. "The event sold out
in 10 days last year."
