OB SPORTS GOLF & LEISURE x FALL 2018 x obsports.com l DESTINATIONS >>> THE FAB FOUR n FROM MINNESOTA ON SOUTH THROUGH IOWA, MISSOURI AND TENNESSEE, THESE PRIVATE CLUBS ARE LEGENDARY BY joel Beers A t first glance of a map, the states of Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Tennessee don't seem to be the most cohesive group. Two are smack dab in the heart of the American Midwest, one is in the upper Midwest, another in the South. But they are connected not only by road – three interstates will get you from one to the other in about 11 hours – but also in that each offers one of the finest private club experi- ences in the country. Beginning in the far north of Min- nesota, there's Somerby Golf Club, a lush oasis that looks as natural as the wetlands adjoining it. Drop down to Iowa and you find Echo Valley Country Club, a 27-hole fa- cility a few minutes from downtown Des Moines. Family owned for more than 50 years, the combination of in- credible golf and an active membership makes it a club that truly has stood the test of time. Head southeast into Missouri and you'll come across Dalhousie Golf Club, a stunning beauty of a course set on 900 acres next to the Mississippi River. Here, Nicklaus Design had a blank canvas to work upon and the re- sults were tremendous. Finally, cross the river and you'll find Vanderbilt Legends Club in middle Ten- nessee, which offers two 18-hole golf courses designed by Tom Kite and Bob Cupp, as well as one of the most com- prehensive practice areas in the country. Let's take a tour… Dalhousie Golf Club Echo Valley Country Club Somerby Golf Club Vanderbilt Legends Club
