TOUR REPORT
LOOKING AHEAD
n 5 PLAYERS TO KEEP TABS ON IN 2018-19 • BY joe passov
T
here are almost as many
storylines as there are
players revolving around
the 2018-2019 PGA Tour
season. Here are five guys that
will make news early and often…
1) Tony Finau . The likable
Utah native has enjoyed an excellent, if
not meteoric rise on Tour. Yes, he's only
notched one win, an opposite-field vic-
tory in Puerto Rico in 2016, but he
shined in 2017 with eight top 10s, then
exploded in 2018, with 11 top 10s, three
runner-up finishes and three Top 10s
in the majors.
His captain's pick for the U.S. Ryder
Cup team proved to himself he belongs
among the elite, and his 2019 results
will reflect that.
2) Sam Burns . Beware the tal-
ented golfer with a chip on his shoulder.
As an LSU student, Burns won the
2017 Jack Nicklaus Award as the top
Division I player in collegiate golf, yet
was inexplicably left off that summer's
Walker Cup team.
He rebounded from that slight in
2018 with one win on the Web.com
tour, a T7 at the PGA Tour's Honda
Classic, where he matched playing
partner Tiger Woods shot for shot in
the final round and enough cash
earned to play the PGA Tour full-time
in the year ahead.
3) Aaron Wise. This confi-
dent 22-year-old won the Individual
title at the 2016 NCAA Champi-
onships, where he also led his Univer-
sity of Oregon Ducks to the team title.
One victory on the Web.com Tour in
2017 was backed by a breakthrough
2018 triumph on the PGA Tour,
when he scorched Trinity Forest in
23-under-par 261 to win the AT&T
