n PAPAGO GOLF COURSE UNVEILS NEW
CLUBHOUSE AND PRACTICE FACILITY
BY GreG Ball
P
apago Golf Course in northeast Phoenix has
long been considered one of Arizona's pre-
mier public courses, and this fall the old fa-
vorite will be unveiling some major
upgrades with the opening of a new clubhouse and a
practice facility that's been touted as second to none.
Locals and visitors alike have been teeing it up on
the Billy Bell-designed layout since it opened in 1963,
but the challenging track, which plays 7,333 yards
from the tips, was always its main selling point, as
the practice area was somewhat pedestrian and there
hadn't been a permanent clubhouse in over a decade.
That will all change this fall.
The new, state-of-the-art Lou Grubb clubhouse
had a soft opening in late September that will be fol-
lowed by a grand opening celebration in December.
Meanwhile, the practice facility is scheduled to open
to golfers sometime in mid-to-late November.
