YOUR GAME F or some golfers, each round is an attempt to master a course, focusing solely on pushing their games to the highest level and shooting the lowest possible score. But the rest of us realize that golf is as much a social endeavor as it is an intensely individual one, a group ex- ercise in a shared experience. One in which grabbing a burger at the turn, seeing the beverage cart, or listening to one's favorite music is all part of the day. And that is where the genesis of Ampcaddy sprang from. A music- amplifying device unveiled in 2014 that uses Bluetooth technology and can be easily mounted on a golf cart, Ampcaddy allows a group of golfers to enjoy music without the hassle of placing small speakers and cell phones into cup holders, which often results in muffled sound, spilled drinks on equipment and distracting other golfers. It's all about increasing the sociability of a round of golf, says co-founder John Billin. "As with anything else, music cre- ates a more social ambiance, is invit- ing and lightens the mood," he said. Music adds to the enjoyment of the round in the same way music en- hances your drive to work or your fa- vorite restaurant." Billin, who regularly played with a large group of friends every Friday at Los Robles Greens Golf Course in Thousand Oaks, sensed there was an alternative to the tinny music emanating from everyone's cell phones. That instinct led him to work on the creation of Ampcaddy, which is portable and can be mounted to the cart at ear level and can be swiveled to help direct the sound toward play- ers, rather than other golfers. Offering much better sound quality than cell phone speakers, with a con- tinuous battery life of more than eight hours, and with the ability for golfers to control the sound direction, Billin said the invention was created by a golf professional specifically for the golfer "Ampcaddy was designed to en- hance the golfing experience by mak- ing golf more fun and inviting," he said. "We want to grow the game of golf by showing that there is a fun, easy-going approach that everyone can enjoy." THE SOUND OF MUSIC With Ampcaddy, golfers can listen to their favorite tunes on the golf course using Bluetooth technology The Ampcaddy is portable and easily attaches to a golf cart.
