Chardonnay staff goes the
extra mile for charity
M
any golf courses across the
country are known for
their philanthropic efforts
via charity tournaments and donated
rounds. Chardonnay Golf Club is
very active on this front, having do-
nated thousands of rounds of golf
over the years to assist with non-
profit fund-raising efforts. But in re-
cent years, staff members at
Chardonnay have
taken it upon them-
selves to do even more
for the community
that supports them.
"Staff members here
at the club have upped
the ante by getting
proactive, and person-
ally and directly investing their time
and efforts in coordinating and run-
ning fund-raising programs," said
General Manager Roger Billings. "It's
not often you find individual em-
ployees of golf courses hosting and
planning golf tournaments for non-
profits, but that's exactly what's hap-
pening at Chardonnay Golf Club."
One employee who is going above
and beyond the call of duty is Tour-
nament Sales Director Alex Hall.
In November of 2011, Jim Capoot, a
Vallejo police officer, resident of Va-
caville, and close friend of Hall's, lost
his life in the line of duty. Hall
thought creating a memorial golf
tournament fund-raiser in Officer
Capoot's name would be a great way
to honor his friend's legacy and raise
additional funds for the Vacaville Po-
lice Activities League and Vacaville
Vengeance, two non-profits Capoot
was heavily involved in.
Since its inception in 2013, the tour-
nament has raised more than $25,000
to assist the above-mentioned youth
programs in Solano County. This
year's event will be held Oct. 23.
Another staff member that is reach-
ing out is Chardonnay's Head Golf
Professional Bob Becker
Becker is the Coordinator of the
community outreach program We
Love Our City at the Father's House
Church in Napa. He and his wife,
Lesley, coordinate and facilitate vol-
unteers that serve five under-re-
sourced city blocks in Napa with
food every Saturday morning, a
"free" Farmers Market produce give-
away on the second Saturday of
every month, supplementary food
service at two local elementary
schools, and various other programs.
It's safe to say that to those at
Chardonnay Golf Club, community
members are family.
